Job summary

The NHS Department of Dermatology is seeking a part-time consultant (8 PA) to run a range of clinics at University Hospital Lewisham and Guys and St Thomas' Hospital. The role includes general adult, paediatric dermatology and skin cancer clinics, plus inpatient review of acute referrals.

You will contribute to MDTs, CPD events and lead the department while delivering high-quality patient care across multiple sites in South East London.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent, with GMC registration and license to practice.
• MRCP and on GMC specialist register for Dermatology or near completion.
• CCT in Dermatology or within six months of obtainment.
• Evidence of teaching and leadership experience.
• Experience across dermatology subspecialties including paediatric and skin cancer.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality Dermatology care in out-patient clinics and perform high quality surgery within the appropriate level of skill.
• Attend required MDT and CPD events.
• Regular ward rounds with clinical involvement in inpatient care.
• Provide support to GP colleagues in hospital.
• Lead the department and develop services with colleagues inside and outside the organisation.

Job description

The Department of Dermatology is seeking one part-time (8 PA) substantive consultant for a joint post, the post holder will run a range of clinics based at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) and Guys and St Thomas' Hospital. This post will include general adult, paediatrics dermatology clinics and skin cancer clinics. The post also includes inpatient review of acute dermatology referrals. The post may have a requirement for flexible working across other South East London dermatology sites depending on service demand. We are looking for a dynamic applicant(s) who is committed to excellence in patient care and who is forward-looking as we explore innovative ways of delivering our services.

Job responsibilities

The job plan is anticipated to contain a total of 8 Programmed Activities per week. 5.5pas to be carried out at the UHL site and 2.5pas Guys and St Thomas' Hospital paediatric dermatology. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Lead within 3 months of your start date.

The job plan will be negotiated between the consultant and his/her Clinical Lead at least annually.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent
• MRCP
• GMC registration and hold a License to Practice
• On the GMC specialist register for Dermatology or hold CCT in Dermatology or be within six months of obtaining CCT at date of interview or equivalent experience.
• Distinctions, scholarships, prizes Other higher degrees, e.g. BSc, PhD, MD.MSc, MD, PhD

Clinical Experience

• Significant expertise in the management of secondary dermatology, cancer, general adult and paediatric dermatology patients
• Subspecialty training and interest to compliment service and development

Teaching Experience

• Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
• Formal Teaching qualification.
• Evidence of ability to lead and develop a teaching programme

Management & Administrative Experience

• Communication; Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
• Accountability; Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
• Staff Management; Experience of performance management, developing and motivating staff.
• Finance; Knowledge of finance and budgets.
• Experience in service business case
• An understanding of corpocracy in the NHS

Research Experience

• Knowledge of research methodology and clinical trials
