Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Deputy Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to lead a Surgical Assessment Unit and contribute to the development of the new Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit in Sutton in Ashfield.

You will oversee day-to-day ward operations in the absence of the Ward Sister, ensuring safe staffing, high-quality patient care and effective escalation of urgent needs across all shifts.

Qualifications

• First Level Registered Nurse with NMC registration.
• Suitable teaching qualification / Mentoring Course.
• Diploma or degree in health / nursing related studies.

Job summary

Sherwood Forest Hospitals are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Ward Sister to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role within our Surgical Assessment Unit and contribute to the development of our new Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ward in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. You will coordinate the delivery of high-quality care, ensuring that staffing levels and skill mix are effectively managed to meet patient needs across each shift.

Qualifications/Academic/Craft/Professional

Further Training

Essential

• Mandatory training and updates

• Significant post registration experience, including some experience within specialty

• Supervision of non registered staff, pre registration and post basic students
• Evidence of ability to mentor
• Ability to manage the clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively
• Demonstrate an understanding of the deputy sister / charge nurse role
• Research training / experience.
• Recent or current experience within the specialty.
