Deputy Ward Manager - Ward 8A

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic and challenging infectious diseases team.

This position of Deputy Ward Manager will be to support the current Ward Manager in all aspects of the daily running of the Unit and to lead the team in her absence.You will need to be a motivated team player with excellent communication skills be confident, motivated, independent and proactive in your nursing and decision making skills. It is essential that you can demonstrate that you have supervisory, training and leadership skills and have had responsibility for a teams performance. You must hold a current Pin Number with the UK NMC as an RGN, and must have experience in mentorship and leading a team. You must also be able to demonstrate a continuing commitment to your own professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work without direct supervision and will take charge of the ward/ department in the absence of the ward/ department manager, who holds continuing responsibility.

Key responsibilities will include the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, effective leadership and staff management/development.

The post holder will always work within the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct.

Clinical Responsibilities

Co-ordination of the ward/department on a day to day basis including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams or individuals and self.

Provide specialist knowledge to all Nursing staff on the ward/ department

Will promote a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care ensuring that the ward/ department environment is responsive to current issues.

In support of the ward/ department manager will assist in the review and update of procedures and protocols relating to the care of patients.

Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking.

Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients/clients.

Explore and undertake expanded practice to optimise patient care as required within specialist area, in accordance with Trust policies
