Job description

We have an exciting opportunity available in our Bolton Inpatient Mental Health Unit on Beech Ward, where we are hiring for a full-time Deputy Ward Manager position.

Our facility includes three inpatient wards located at the Royal Bolton Hospital within the Rivington unit:

  • Beech Ward: a 22-bed male acute psychiatric service.
  • Oak Ward: a 20-bed female acute psychiatric service.
  • Maple House: a 6-bed male Psychiatric Intensive Nursing Unit.

The inpatient wards support adults of working age, providing assessments, treatment, and support to individuals experiencing psychiatric crises with complex mental health needs within the GM footprint.

We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and compassionate individuals who:

  • Have a positive attitude towards mental health and promoting recovery.
  • Understand positive behavioral support.
  • Are committed to delivering person-centered and trauma-informed care.
  • Want to support working-age adults in their recovery.

We pride ourselves on a recovery-focused model of care and aim to reduce restrictive practices; your knowledge and leadership in this area will be essential. Successful candidates will join an outstanding team with opportunities for further training, development, and progression.

As a Deputy Ward Manager, you will be an active member of the ward management team, supporting the Ward Manager in operational management and leadership of the ward. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Upholding the values of the ward by promoting openness, transparency, and learning.
  • Supervising junior staff.
  • Mentoring new staff, newly qualified nurses, and junior staff.
  • Overseeing clinical areas such as medication management and physical health provision.
  • Supporting the Ward Manager with HR tasks like return-to-work processes and sickness monitoring.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Managing shifts as nurse in charge.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and developing risk management plans to support incident management on the ward.

We are looking for a resilient, driven, and passionate individual committed to providing high-quality nursing care and supporting leadership within Oak and Beech wards.
