An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Surgery and Elective Care Business Unit on Ward 1, NSECH for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join our team .
We are looking to appoint a senior nurse who is enthusiastic and highly motivated. You will form part of the senior nursing team working in partnership with the Ward Manager, Matron, and Management team. Part of your role will include providing leadership to the nursing team through the active promotion of the trust values.
Ward 1 is a 30 bed emergency trauma orthopaedic ward which is primarily responsible for trauma orthopaedic admissions originating in the Emergency Department, transfers from outpatient clinics, other wards at NSECH and any other wards within the trust where patients require a specialist Orthopaedic review which requires surgical intervention or care. High risk elective orthopaedic surgery is also carried out on this site.

The successful applicant will be a senior member of the nursing team and will act as a role model to junior staff. You will assist in the day to day operational management of the ward, ensuring effective flow of patients. You will also lead the team of nurses and nursing assistants with the support of the Ward Manager; ensuring staff receive an annual appraisal, guidance with their professional development and mandatory training.
Provide exceptional patient care which is underpinned by evidence based practice and our Northumbria Trust values.
Work in partnership with the patients’ family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process on behalf of the patient where agreed.
Manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.
Communicate effectively information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
