Deputy Unit Leader and Pre-op Assessment for Ophthalmology

Band 6, Ophthalmology Deputy Unit Leader and Pre-op Assessment

Working across sites, Leigh Infirmary and Boston House Eye Unit

Full time 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday sessions as required.

We are seeking a motivated surgical nurse, preferably with pre-op and/or ophthalmology experience. Training in all aspects of the pre-op and ophthalmology service will be provided.

This is a new position. The successful candidate will be involved in setting up, developing, and running an ophthalmic pre-op assessment service at Leigh Infirmary.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Health assessments of ophthalmology patients scheduled for various procedures.
  2. Performing autorefraction and biometry measurements and evaluating results.
  3. Accurate documentation of assessments and investigations.
  4. Communicating with multidisciplinary teams, including theatres, wards, GPs, opticians, infection control, and ophthalmology teams at both sites.
  5. Providing managerial cover for the ophthalmology unit manager and deputy unit manager at Boston House.
  6. Supervising and training junior staff and students.
  7. Running ophthalmology clinics on both sites.
