Job description

An outstanding individual is sought to fulfill the role of Deputy Training Programme Director for General Surgery.

The post will be available on a secondment basis to NHS England, with TPD sessional payments (£10,000 per annum, per PA session / 4 hours per week).

All work undertaken is to be incorporated into the Consultant Job Plan. The Deputy Training Programme Director will support the Head of School in leading a range of functions aligned with the NHS England mandate.

The role is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School. It focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment, engagement of faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes. The role will evolve to include whole workforce transformation, multi-professional links, innovative curriculum delivery, and workforce well-being strategies.

Deputy Training Programme Directors work across health and social care sectors within a team to reflect changing service models, delivering an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.

Engaging People/Key Working Relationships

Developing effective communication and collaboration networks with stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels, including:

  • Postgraduate Dean
  • Head of School
  • Staff at all levels across the geographical area
  • Practices and schemes
  • Associate and deputy deans
  • Clinical Faculty
  • Other Heads of Schools
  • Other Training Programme Directors
  • Royal Colleges
  • Professional and regulatory bodies
  • Wider Stakeholder Network
  • Local Medical and Dental Schools
  • Providers and commissioners
  • Directors of Education
  • Higher Educational Institutions
Delivering Results/Functional Responsibilities
  • Ensuring high standards of education and training as per GMC and other national bodies in Yorkshire and the Humber.
  • Committing to national policies for educational quality management.
  • Meeting objectives within budget, contributing to savings when needed.
  • Adhering to Code of Practice Guidelines.
  • Providing guidance to trainees on OOP, IDTs, LTFT, Acting up applications.
