The Deputy Team Managers, alongside the Team Manager, will be responsible for providing leadership for the entire team by offering supervision and oversight to Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, and other colleagues, both clinical and non-professional. The post holder will deliver management, professional expertise, skills, and advice to ensure the provision of high-quality services within Adult Social Care.

The Deputy Team Managers will collaborate with the Team Manager to deliver a safe, strength-based service that promotes and enhances independence. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive person-centred assessments, reviews, and interventions, supporting court work when required, safeguarding individuals, and enabling choice and control over their accommodation, care, and support needs. You will serve as a role model and expert practitioner within the team, fostering a culture of reflective practice, learning, and development.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  1. Service Provision: To be responsible, with the Team Manager, for delivering a comprehensive and effective social work and occupational therapy service in line with current legislation, council policy, and best practices.
  2. Team Management: To manage and supervise a team of social care practitioners, which may include professionals from diverse backgrounds, ASYE, and student placements. This involves coordinating induction, setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and supporting people management activities.
  3. Expert Practice: To act as an expert within the service, providing oversight, guidance, and advice to colleagues to facilitate appropriate and safe decision-making.
  4. Training and Development: To revise staff training and development plans, mentor less experienced staff, and support continuous professional development.
  5. Decision Support: To assist team members with decision-making and clinical reasoning, ensuring timely work allocation, managing waiting lists and risks, and monitoring weekly performance to meet statutory responsibilities.
  6. Person-Centred Approach: To prioritize individuals in all activities, promoting a strength-based assessment approach and enabling positive risk-taking within statutory frameworks.
  7. Value for Money: To ensure service delivery is cost-effective and meets the complex needs of service users and carers.
  8. Partnerships: To develop and maintain strong working relationships with other professionals, agencies, and external partners.
  9. Quality Assurance: To oversee and quality assess high-risk assessments and support plans, ensuring individuals have choice and control.
  10. Safeguarding: To act judiciously to support individuals, families, and communities, promoting independence and safeguarding against harm, neglect, and abuse.
  11. Safeguarding Systems: To ensure safeguarding is a priority with effective investigation systems for allegations and incidents.
  12. Evidence-Based Practice: To ensure professionals adhere to evidence-based and best practices.
  13. Assistive Technology and Adaptations: To prioritize assistive technology, telecare, equipment, and housing adaptations, ensuring preventative solutions are considered first.
  14. Additional Tasks: To undertake any other duties or projects relevant to the role.
Job Context

The post holder reports to the Team Manager and seeks advice on policy decisions or complex issues. Southwark Council aims to support vulnerable adults in achieving independence through reablement, support planning, and appropriate placements. The post requires a proactive approach aligned with these goals and adherence to the Council’s Equal Opportunities policy.
