Job overview

Work with clients who have suspected psychosis or who are presenting with a psychotic illness, undertake formulation, assessments including risk and specialist assessments such as SCI-Panns and CAARMS. Plan, monitor, and review care packages.

The posts are within teams across the Pennine Care footprint to the east of Manchester. There are five Early Intervention Teams all achieving ‘top performing’ at the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP). The organisation has secured additional investment to expand the psychological therapies service to people aged 14-35, with an at-risk mental state (ARMS).

Main duties of the job

To participate in providing high-quality care. This involves assessing, supporting, and monitoring service users experiencing their first episode of psychosis or suspected of developing psychosis. Work will be in various community settings, liaising and co-working with other statutory and non-statutory services. It includes working with carers and families, and seeing service users' families and carers in their homes, clinics, or other environments such as hostels, supported living, prisons, residential, and nursing homes.

Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN / Diploma / Degree), Occupational Therapist, or Social Work registration
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent work experience relevant to the role
Experience
  • Experience of clinical supervision
  • Experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working with clients with serious mental illness and their families/carers
  • Experience of care coordinating complex packages of care
  • Experience conducting high-quality risk assessments and implementing risk management plans
  • Experience in early intervention for psychosis, e.g., specialist placement, previous employment, research participation, or personal experience
  • Experience using psychosis-specific semi-structured interviews (e.g., PANSS, CAARMS, PSYRATS)
  • Experience managing Community Treatment Orders
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of early intervention ethos and philosophy
  • High level of knowledge about Early Intervention for Psychosis
  • Knowledge of psychosocial interventions research and clinical implications
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based interventions for psychosis and At-Risk Mental State
  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines for psychosis and schizophrenia
