Job description

You will also participate as a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in the overall management of the department, taking responsibility for specific projects within defined boundaries. We expect staff to promote a positive working and learning environment, aiding in the personal and professional development of themselves and colleagues. You will join an established and dynamic multidisciplinary team where clinical and nursing teams collaborate effectively.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Maintaining high standards of patient-focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
  2. Ensuring a safe and clean working environment.
  3. Providing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, with accurate documentation.
  4. Communicating with patients and carers to provide appropriate information.
  5. Promoting positive relationships among all staff involved in patient care.
  6. Acting in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
  7. Undertaking duties across different wards/departments as required by service demands.
  8. Demonstrating personal responsibility for infection control policies and procedures.

We are seeking a highly experienced critical care practitioner to ensure the safe and effective management of the Critical Care area as a shift leader.

As an independent practitioner, you must provide highly skilled nursing care to critically ill patients and support junior staff. In conjunction with the Band 7 Sister, you will manage a team of nursing staff, identify educational needs, and oversee performance and sickness management within defined parameters. The successful candidate must have:

  • First-level registration; a degree in a health-related topic (or studying towards) is advantageous.
  • Teaching certificate (or studying towards).
  • Critical Care qualification or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of Critical Care nursing experience, with a record of contributing to changes in nursing practice.

You should demonstrate good organizational skills, effective team working, and evidence of clinical and managerial leadership skills.
