Job description

You will be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills, including proficiency in extended clinical roles expected in the care of the acute patient. As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, it is expected that you can make justified decisions in the absence of the Sister and assist in the development of nurse-led services.

Must have previous experience with the NHS and Acute medicine.

You will need to work well under pressure and build strong communication links with the Clinical Site Team, Emergency Department, Management, and Multi-Disciplinary Teams. You will oversee a designated team of staff, organizing and being responsible for training, appraisals, support, development, and addressing complaints and adverse incidents.

Responsibilities include the safe coordination of the Same Day Emergency Care Clinic on a shift-to-shift basis, ensuring timely patient flow and maintaining safety, escalating issues to the Band 7 team or out-of-hours clinical site as needed.

You will deliver planned care to a group of patients within the standards outlined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and in accordance with Trust policies and protocols.

You will demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team, providing support and guidance to less experienced staff and learners.

You will be responsible for a team of junior staff, ensuring timely appraisals and training needs are met.

Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD, underpinning all our actions and interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues.

UHD is investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed following merger and the New Hospital Programme.

The role will be based at Poole with an expectation of cross-site working. The whole service will be moving to the Bournemouth site, and the successful candidate will be expected to relocate in January 2026.

Please note that if the role or service relocates as part of a planned move, employees will not be eligible for excess mileage reimbursement. Travel from the home to the new work base will be considered a normal commute. Other changes not related to this relocation will be managed according to Trust or National terms and conditions.
