This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate childcare professional with solid early years’ experience to step into a leadership role. Supporting the Room Leader, you will help lead a dedicated team of practitioners in delivering outstanding care and education to children aged from 6 months to 5 years.

As Deputy Room Leader, you will play an essential role in creating a nurturing, engaging and inclusive environment that promotes each child’s learning and development. You’ll take pride in being a positive role model, fostering strong relationships with both children and their families, and ensuring the room run smoothly day-to-day.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in leading, inspiring and motivating a team of practitioners and apprentices.
  • Deliver high-quality care and learning opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Be a key person for a group of children, maintaining up-to-date online learning journals (Tapestry) and providing regular feedback to families.
  • Foster an inclusive, fun and stimulating environment that encourages children's personal, social and emotional development.
  • Lead by example, modelling best practice and supporting newer team members and apprentices in their development.
  • Organise and lead planning meetings, circle time, outdoor play, and other daily activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents, professionals, and colleagues.
  • Monitor resources and report shortages, ensuring high standards of health, safety, and hygiene.
  • Support the implementation of new ideas and curriculum initiatives.
  • Attend planning, training, and curriculum meetings, including occasional sessions outside of working hours.

Requirements:

  • A minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Childhood Education
  • Proven experience of working within an EYFS setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, early years development, and inclusive practice.
  • Additional training such as Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Allergen Awareness, or SEN knowledge is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and observation skills.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusion.
  • A warm, enthusiastic, and professional attitude with a genuine love for early years education.
  • Willingness to attend training and contribute to the ongoing success of the nursery.

Benefits:

  • A competitive basic salary dependent on skills, knowledge, and experience.
  • Working Hours: 40 hours across Monday-Friday (Shifts: 07:30-16:30, 08:00-17:00, 08:00-18:00 with half a day off)
  • 25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays and closure over Christmas.
  • Staff referral bonus
  • 50% discounted nursery fees.
  • Free lunches.
  • Free use of the fitness suite.
  • Free uniform provided.
  • Free onsite parking.
  • Generous Pension Scheme.
  • Learning and progression opportunities, including 3 dedicated paid staff training days across the year.

As part of The Peterborough School, established in 1895, you join a supportive family, with a long history of success. Joining the wider team, you will enjoy further benefits that being part of a thriving workplace brings. The Nursery recently expanded too, signalling the school’s success and ambition for the future.
