Our commitment extends to education through New Horizon Academy, a small independent school for 11–16-year-olds with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

At NH Care, we pride ourselves on delivering the highest standards of care to the children entrusted to us—ensuring every child feels valued, supported, and empowered.

As a Deputy Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the Home Manager in delivering high-quality, child-centred residential care. You’ll help ensure the home remains a safe, positive, and homely environment where children and young people with complex needs—including learning disabilities, SEMH challenges, and behavioural issues—can flourish.

You’ll supervise and guide staff, oversee daily operations, and step into leadership when the Home Manager is absent, always upholding NH Care’s values and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management
• Supervise Team Leaders and residential care staff, offering guidance through effective management practices such as delegation, consultation, and regular supervision.
• Support staff development and deployment, including HR procedures like annual leave planning.

Safeguarding & Care Standards
• Ensure safe working practices in line with safeguarding policies, health protocols, and behavioural support strategies.
• Oversee medication handling and distribution according to NH Care procedures.

Operational Oversight
• Maintain high environmental standards, including health and safety compliance.
• Manage delegated budgets in accordance with NH Care’s financial regulations.
• Investigate complaints and ensure safeguarding responsibilities are fulfilled.

Professional Development
• Stay current with professional developments and engage in training opportunities.
• Align personal growth with NH Care’s performance management policies and Workforce Plan.

About you
• Experience working with children and young people with learning disabilities, SEMH needs, and challenging behaviour
• Background in residential or social care settings, with strong communication skills across all levels
• Proven leadership experience, including mentoring, supervising, and managing staff teams
• Holds NVQ Level 3 and Level 5 qualifications in Health and Social Care or equivalent or willingness to undertake
• Full UK driving licence is desirable
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; additional communication methods (e.g. Makaton, sign language) are a plus
• Confident using ICT tools (email, Microsoft Office, internet) or willing to learn
• Able to lead effectively, take initiative, and work independently or as part of a team
• Skilled in managing stress, emotional situations, and multiple priorities under pressure
• Capable of problem-solving, risk assessment, and making sound decisions in emergencies
• Committed to safeguarding, confidentiality, and advocating for children’s needs
• Empathetic, respectful, and able to build trusting relationships with children and colleagues
• Flexible and willing to work unsociable hours, weekends, sleep-ins, and travel as needed
• Enthusiastic, reliable, creative, and able to maintain a calm, positive attitude
• Dedicated to personal development, equality, inclusion, and continuous improvement
