Nuclear New Build has been identified by the UK Government as key to meeting our Net Zero Ambition. The programme encompasses large scale sites under construction or in planning (eg Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C), small scale reactors and research and development of advanced nuclear technologies that may be used to produce hydrogen or for heating, in addition to generating electricity. As the Deputy Programme Manager, you'll provide programme management support and monitor the overall progress and performance of the Nuclear New Build projects that make up the NNB Programme. You'll help to manage strategic risks, reputational risks, monitor workloads and any pressures, and promote and help ensure consistency across within the programme.
We have Area Project Teams that lead our response to the nuclear developments at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C projects and this portfolio of projects looks set be added to over the coming years. Some national teams also provide significant contributions to our response to the Nuclear Projects, including a Habitat Regulations, Marine and Permitting teams. You'll work closely with these teams across a range of meetings.
The role also works with external organisations, including Natural England, the Marine Management Organisation, and the NNB companies constructing the sites.
You'll work closely with the other NNB Programme Management Team members to check in on work demands, workloads, consider upcoming work - and help to highlight with the NNB Programme Manager - any risks or blockers to delivery.
The role will interact with senior leaders within the Environment Agency, across both Area and National teams.
The team
You’ll join our Nuclear New Build Programme Team. We’re a dispersed team and work with a wide range of technical and project teams across the country.
We’re part of the Environment and Business Directorate. We inform and deliver the government's key environmental objectives; using evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation we influence policy and legislation, facilitate, and enhance integrated delivery and, by building trust in the Environment Agency, secure resources to do more for the environment.
Experience/skills Required
This is a programme management role focused on supporting and enabling the Nuclear New Build Programme.
Essential:-
Able to plan and deliver work to time and of high quality; focusing on customer needs.
Able to help develop effective solutions to issues/problem.
Experience managing large and complex programmes under significant political scrutiny.
Ability to prioritise under multiple conflicting demands.
Ability to lead delivery of a range of projects to time and quality standards.
A proven track record of achieving results through others, influencing and building relationships, and effecting innovation in an agile way.
You will be a skilled communicator; able to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, gaining trust and building effective working relationships.
Commitment to investing in your own and others development.
In your capability-based answers please also demonstrate your ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible / hybrid.
