Our client is a brand new, independent Montessori nursery in the heart of Marylebone, offering a four-day working week and opening in November with just 29 places across two small rooms. They’re looking for a Deputy Nursery Manager to join their founding team, supporting the manager to lead a setting built around Montessori principles, Forest School and genuinely individual care.
This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Deputy looking for a change, or a Room Leader ready to take their first step into management. Being an independent nursery, they have the freedom to do things their own way, and as one of the first leaders in the team you’ll play a real part in shaping the culture, routines and standards from day one. Your week is a balance of three days in the rooms, floating between the baby room and the toddler and preschool room, and one day in the office, so you’ll stay close to the children while building your leadership experience.
On offer is a salary of £32-35k on a four-day working week, a close-knit and supportive team culture, and the chance to grow your management career alongside a nursery as it builds its reputation from opening.
Key responsibilities:
Leadership: Support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day running of the nursery, deputising in their absence.
Room support: Float between the baby room and the toddler and preschool room, modelling outstanding practice in line with the EYFS and Montessori principles.
Team development: Lead staff supervisions, coach and train the team, and help build a positive, reflective culture.
Operations: Support with rotas, admissions, parent tours and keeping the nursery Ofsted-ready.
Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and personal care across the setting.
About you:
Qualified: You hold a recognised Level 3 qualification or above in Early Years Education or Childcare.
Experienced: You’re an experienced Deputy Manager, or a Room Leader ready to step up into management.
EYFS expert: You have a strong understanding of the EYFS, child development and safeguarding.
Natural leader: You’re supportive, organised and confident guiding a team and building great relationships with parents.
Ready for checks: You’re happy to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
Bonus points: Montessori experience or a Montessori qualification, an interest in Forest School and a valid paediatric first aid certificate would all be a real advantage.
What’s in it for you:
A salary of £32-35k, dependent on experience and qualifications.
A four-day working week, giving you three days off every week.
A balanced role with three days in the rooms and one day in the office.
The chance to join a brand new nursery as part of its founding leadership team.
A small, personable setting of just 29 children, plus a rich enrichment programme of yoga, music and Mandarin.
