Main duties of the job

Weare looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated senior registered nurse ormidwife with post registration safeguarding experience with a keen desire toimprove the outcomes for vulnerable children, young people and theirfamilies, to join our team.

Supportingthe Named Nurse for Children to drive forward the safeguarding childrenagenda, key responsibilities of the role will include providing support,guidance and expert advice to the safeguarding team and frontline staff;developing and delivering training and safeguarding supervision; supportingwith monitoring practice and progression of improvement plans. The postholder will deputise for the Named Nurse for Children, providing thesuccessful candidate with the opportunity to contribute to multidisciplinaryand multi-agency safeguarding children activities and supporting theoperational management of the Children and Midwifery Safeguarding Team.

Thesuccessful candidate will need to demonstrate robust knowledge and experiencein the field of Safeguarding Children, possess excellent organisationalskills, effective communication skills, experience in teaching, supervisionand the confidence to provide positive professional challenge and support toeffect change.

2. JOB PURPOSE

Thepost holder will undertake the role of the Deputy Named Nurse forSafeguarding, acting as a senior Safeguarding Nurse within the Trust with theNamed Nurse for Safeguarding providing day to day management of the Childrenand midwifery safeguarding team and acting as a central point of contact for,health professionals and partner agencies that have safeguarding children andchild protection concerns.

Thepost holder will work in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding, NamedNursefor Safeguarding and the other Named Safeguarding Professionals inensuring that the safeguarding children statutory requirements are met withinas of the Children Act 1989/2004.

Thepost holder will demonstrate advance skills and competencies to influence thepathways of care in the safeguarding in children services. They ensure thatevidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care. The role requires a comprehensive and soundknowledge base of legal literacy of Children Act and family law thatinterface with the safeguarding children agenda.

Thepost holder will in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding, Named Nursefor Safeguarding, Head of Children / management team lead in the developmentand delivery of high quality, evidence based services to children and theirfamilies identified as having safeguarding concerns.

Jobsummary:

To ensure the highest standards ofsafeguarding practice are delivered to the children and their families inpartnership with all members of the internal and external multi-disciplinaryteam

To have responsibility forsupervision of staff in relation to the delivery and maintenance ofsafeguarding children standards across the children department covered byLTHT.

Foster and maintain excellentcommunication links with other external agencies and professionals inrelation to safeguarding children.

Be responsible for the audit ofsafeguarding practices within the children setting

3. JOB DIMENSIONS

Thepost holder will work closely with the Leeds Children Hospital, transitionalservices within the Trust and other services from across the region for allchildren and young people.

To participate in specialisteducation and training in relation to safeguarding to clinical andnon-clinical staff across all teams caring for children and young people.

To provide professional andmanagerial leadership and evidence-based support to all staff caring forchildren and young people in relation to safeguarding.

To be knowledgeable of the NMC codeof conduct and to be accountable for practice in accordance with that code,along with the Roles And Competencies For Healthcare Staff (2014)

To support the Named Nurse andother Named and Link Professionals in issues relating to safeguardingchildren.

Deputise for the Named Nurse forSafeguarding in their absence through attendance at meetings.

Support the Named Nurse forSafeguarding Children where necessary to represent the Trust at LocalSafeguarding Children Partnership LSCPs including attending LSCPsub-committees as appropriate.
