Job description

Role: Deputy Manager (Children s Residential)
Location: Herne Bay, Kent
Salary: £38,000 £40,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

The Company:

Responsibilities
  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home in line with the Children s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Deliver high-quality, child-focused care that promotes stability and positive long-term outcomes.
  • Supervise, mentor and develop residential support staff, ensuring strong team culture and high standards of practice.
  • Oversee completion of key paperwork, care plans, and records to a consistently high standard.
  • Promote safeguarding and embed safe working practices throughout the home.
  • Support with rota planning, recruitment, staff development and performance management.
  • Contribute to the home s continuous improvement and prepare for Ofsted inspections, audits, and reviews.
  • Build strong working relationships with children, families, local authorities and external partners.
  • Provide shift cover where needed and participate in the on-call rota.
Requirements
  • NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards).
  • Previous experience as a Deputy Manager in a children s residential home.
  • Background of progression from Residential Support Worker into management.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, relevant legislation, and Ofsted standards.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail with paperwork and compliance.
  • A motivated, resilient and hard-working character with the ambition to progress to Registered Manager in the future.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance and positive employment references.
