Job description

Are you a creative, enthusiastic and hands on care professional who wants to make a real difference to the lives of young adults with learning disabilities and autism?

Avon Support is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Deputy Manager to join our vibrant Community hub in Warwick.

Established three years ago, our service has continued to develop, creating opportunities for the young adults we support to build independence, discover new interests, develop life skills and enjoy meaningful experiences within their local community. As we continue to grow and expand, we are looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas, positive energy and a genuine passion for making a difference.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys being actively involved in day-to-day service delivery, leading by example and working alongside a dedicated team to create an engaging, inclusive and inspiring environment.

We are not simply looking for someone to manage a service from behind a desk. We want someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves, get involved in activities, motivate the team, take the initiative and help turn new ideas into reality.

About the Role

Working closely with the Service Manager, you will play a key role in the daily running and ongoing development of the community hub. You will support the team to deliver high quality, person centred support while helping shape new activities, opportunities and experiences as the service continues to grow.

Every day brings something different. From developing practical life skills and encouraging independence to exploring community opportunities, building friendships and discovering individual talents, you will help ensure that the People We Support have opportunities to enjoy fulfilling and meaningful lives.

Your Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development

Support the Service Manager in the day to day management and development of the service.

Lead by example, working alongside staff and actively participating in activities and daily routines.

Provide guidance, support and direction to the team, including Team Leaders and support workers.

Conduct staff supervisions, support performance management and identify training and development needs.

Encourage a positive, inclusive and collaborative team culture where staff feel motivated, supported and accountable for the quality of their work.

Take the initiative to identify challenges, suggest improvements and help the team find practical solutions.

Activities, Creativity & Personal Development

Develop and introduce creative, engaging and meaningful activities that reflect the interests, abilities and aspirations of the young adults we support.

Encourage individuals to explore new experiences, develop practical and social skills, build confidence and increase their independence.

Identify opportunities for community involvement, social inclusion, volunteering, life-skills development and new experiences.

Work with the team to turn ideas into achievable activities and programmes that deliver meaningful outcomes.

Encourage choice, positive risk-taking and individual expression, ensuring activities are accessible, enjoyable and purposeful.

Contribute fresh ideas to the continued growth and development of the service, helping us explore new opportunities and improve what we offer.

Quality, Safeguarding & Compliance

Ensure support plans, risk assessments and individual records are accurate, up to date and reflective of people's changing needs.

Promote safe, person-centred support that respects dignity, choice, independence and individual rights.

Carry out regular quality checks and audits, identifying areas for improvement and following up agreed actions.

Ensure medication procedures, safeguarding processes, incident reporting and company policies are followed consistently.

Support the Service Manager in maintaining compliance with CQC requirements and relevant legislation.

Promote positive behaviour support and ensure staff understand how to respond appropriately to individual needs and behaviours of concern.

Maintain high standards of health and safety throughout the centre and during community activities.

Day to Day Operations

Assist with staff rotas, activity planning and the effective deployment of team members.

Ensure appropriate staffing arrangements are in place to meet the needs of the people attending the service.

Respond proactively to daily operational challenges and help maintain a positive, well-organised environment.

Monitor service quality and contribute to improvement plans as the centre grows.

Support recruitment, staff induction and training to ensure the team has the right skills and values.

Work collaboratively with the Service Manager to make the best use of available resources while maintaining high standards of support.

Participate in on‑call arrangements as required.

Families, Professionals & Community Engagement

Build positive and professional relationships with families, advocates, social workers and other professionals.

Communicate effectively about individuals' progress, achievements, support needs and agreed outcomes.

Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure support remains consistent and responsive.

Develop relationships with local organisations, community groups and activity providers to create more opportunities for the People We Support.

Help promote the service and contribute ideas that support its continued growth and reputation.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings energy, initiative and a positive attitude, alongside the experience and confidence to support a team and maintain high standards.

You will ideally have:

Experience working with adults or young adults with learning disabilities and autism.

Experience in a Senior Support Worker, Team Leader, Deputy Manager or similar role within health and social care.

Experience supporting people with complex needs, communication differences, behaviours of concern, mental health needs or epilepsy.

Experience guiding, supervising or developing staff and promoting good practice.

A sound understanding of person-centred support, safeguarding, risk assessments and quality standards.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance hands‑on support with leadership responsibilities.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build positive relationships with families and professionals.

The confidence to take initiative, make suggestions and turn ideas into practical improvements.

A creative approach to activities, with the ability to recognise opportunities to help people learn, grow and try new things.

A flexible, practical and solutions-focused attitude, with the willingness to get involved wherever needed.

A Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent is desirable but not essential. We welcome candidates who have the right experience, values and willingness to develop professionally.

What Makes This Opportunity Different?
