Job summary

Kara Healthcare is seeking a dedicated NMC Registered Nurse to join our leadership team as Deputy Manager at our Dementia Care Home in Sunderland. This key role balances clinical shifts with supernumerary leadership time, supporting governance, quality, and regulatory compliance to drive high standards of care.

You will lead nursing and care teams, review care plans, support on-call duties, and ensure person-centred care that upholds dignity and safety.

Qualifications

• NMC Registered Nurse with active PIN (RGN or RMN) is required.
• Experience as Deputy Manager or Senior Nurse in elderly/dementia homes preferred.
• Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and governance expectations.
• Proven leadership, communication and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to balance clinical shifts with leadership responsibilities and on-call duties.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced NMC Registered Nurse to join our leadership team as Deputy Manager within our Nursing and Dementia Care Home. This is a key leadership position supporting the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the home. The role requires a strong clinical leader who is confident balancing supernumerary leadership time with clinical shifts, while supporting governance, quality, and regulatory compliance.

You will help drive high standards of care, lead by example on the floor, and support the home in achieving and maintaining strong CQC outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Registered Manager in the daily operational management of the home.
• Take responsibility for the home, including participation in the on-call rota.
• Deliver a mix of supernumerary leadership time and clinical shifts.
• Lead, mentor and support nursing and care teams to deliver outstanding person-centred care.
• Oversee and review care plans, risk assessments, and medication management.
• Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, governance frameworks, safeguarding, and health and safety standards.
• Support audits, quality monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote a positive culture focused on dignity, respect, and clinical excellence.

About You

• NMC Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with an active PIN.
• Minimum 1 year’s experience in a care home environment.
• Previous experience as a Deputy Manager or Senior Nurse within elderly or dementia homes.
• Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and governance expectations.
• Confident managing both clinical delivery and operational leadership responsibilities.
• Passionate about dementia care and person-centred practice.
• Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Resilient, organised, and confident in decision-making.

Requirements

• Proven experience within elderly or dementia nursing care.
• Experience supporting CQC inspections and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to participate in on-call duties.
• Commitment to high-quality care and continuous improvement.
