Job summary

A local nursery service in Newtownabbey is seeking a Deputy Manager to oversee nursery operations in the absence of the manager. Responsibilities include managing the unit, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures. The ideal candidate will hold a BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies and have at least one year of supervisory experience in a child-centered environment. A competitive salary of £15.54 per hour is offered for 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the management and support of staff and trainees.
  • Have worked with children between the ages of 0-7 years.

Job description

The Deputy Manager plays a vital role in the successful running of the nursery. The deputy will work closely with the nursery manager to ensure the nursery is operating efficiently and effectively. The deputy will be in charge of the nursery in the absence of the manager.

Responsibilities
  • To run the unit and the nursery efficiently and effectively.
  • To show prospective parents around the nursery.
  • To comply with all relevant Health and Safety procedures.
  • To fulfil the role of Designated Officer.
  • To work closely with outside agencies to ensure compliance in all areas.
  • To follow the roles and responsibilities of the manager in their absence.
  • To be involved with recruitment of staff.
  • To prepare reports as required by the Manager.
  • Organise and implement a varied programme of age appropriate activities for the children.
  • To supervise staff making sure the roles and responsibilities of all staff in the nursery are being met.
Skills and Qualifications
  • BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies or QCF Level 5 Leadership for Children's Care, Learning and Development.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience in a quality child centred environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to a quality child centred environment.
  • A good level of understanding of children's individual needs.
  • Have worked with children between the ages of 0-7 years.
  • Valid Paediatric First Aid.
  • Designated Officer Training
  • Experience in the management and support of staff and trainees.

We offer a competitive salary of £15.54 per hour for 40 hours per week, on a temporary basis. The nursery is located in Carnmoney, Co Antrim, and is open from 7.20am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
