Deputy Local Authority Designated Officer - Blackpool Council

37 hours per week

£38 - £41 per hour

Hybrid/Office working

We are looking for a Deputy LADO to support Blackpool Council LADO service and will report to Blackpool LADO.

ROLE PURPOSE

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the management and oversight of investigations into allegations regarding individuals working/volunteering with children and young people, in line with the Local Authority Designated Officer criteria.

To provide advice and training to organisations and providers regarding the actions required to safeguard children and young people and the Local Authority Designated Officer function.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) in the management and overview of individual cases from all agencies and voluntary organisations that work with children, if an allegation meets the thresholds, as set out in the Government Guidance, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.
  • Monitor and track the progress of cases to ensure they are dealt with and outcomes achieved within set timescales.
  • Provide advice and consultation with leaders e.g. Head Teachers, Social Care managers, regarding LADO thresholds, immediate actions required and referral next actions.
  • Liaise with employers, Police and the Crown Prosecution Service for their investigation updates, progress and escalate any delay or queries about investigation quality to the LADO.
  • Support the LADO in ensuring a consistent and thorough process for all adults working with children and young people against whom allegations are made.
  • Maintain information databases in relation to all allegations.
  • Chair Allegation Review Meetings.
  • Contribute to and support the delivery of Children’s Safeguarding Assurance Partnership (CSAP) and Children’s Social Care (CSC) training programmes and awareness raising across the Children’s Workforce.
  • Support the LADO in developing and delivering training to multi-agency partners.
  • Undertake the Ofsted and DBS record checks and escalate any concerns to the LADO.
  • Liaise with and refer to DBS, Social Work England and Ofsted as required.

To deputise for the LADO, as and when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Professional Social Work or equivalent social work qualification e.g. DipSW/CQSW/CSS
  • Registered with Social Work England

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • LADO experience desirable.
  • 5 years social work experience akin to senior social worker or above desirable.

Please note these are agency positions and the contracts are 3 months at a time; renewal has to be sought quarterly over the year.
