Job summary

Elysium Healthcare is seeking a Deputy Lead Social Worker to join Thornford Park Hospital in Thatcham, Berkshire. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to support adults with mental health and complex care needs, delivering assessments and safeguarding processes.

You will lead on safeguarding, supervise junior staff, and coordinate non‑medical decisions and care planning. The role includes regional support, ongoing training, and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years’ experience in a similar setting.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding in adult and child contexts.
• Ability to supervise and develop junior staff within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Lead on adult safeguarding within the social work team.
• deputise for Lead Social Worker in quality assurance meetings.
• Deliver safeguarding induction and ongoing training across the hospital.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams on mental capacity and best interests decisions.
• Provide quality supervision and appraisal to social workers.
• Liaise with external agencies (MAPPA, Local Authority etc.).
• Support carers and families of detained patients.

Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will manage and support a caseload of up withmental health conditions.You will be responsible for assessments, CPA reports, Mental Health Tribunals, Managers Hearings and will be requested to supervise junior staff members.

As a deputy manager of the team, you will lead and promote adult safeguarding and will empower recovery to encourage service users to engage in their care plans and achieve their goals.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be supported regionally and will have access to a variety of training and online courses to support your career development and growth.

As a Deputy Lead Social Worker you will be:

• Supporting the social work team to take the lead on child and adult safeguarding.
• Deputising for Lead social worker in quality assurance meetings.
• Supporting the social work team to deliver Safeguarding induction and update training across the Hospital.
• Leading the multidisciplinary teams on non-medical mental capacity issues and best interest decisions.
• Delivering quality supervision and appraisal to junior and senior social workers in the Team.
• Liaising with external agencies to enable them to fulfil their statutory duties, for example: MAPPA, Local Authority Social Services, CMHT, FIND, FOLS, Police and Probation.
• Supporting carers and families of detained patients

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

• A Social Work qualification
• Registration with Social Work England.
• Have a good working knowledge of the relevant legislation
• Have at least 4years’ experience of working in a similar environment

Where you will be working

Location: Thornford Park, Crookham Hill, Thatcham, Berkshire, RG19 8ET

You will work at Thornford Park which is acombination of medium secure and low secure units and rehabilitation flats. The service provides a seamless internal care pathway supporting and empowering patients in their recovery and rehabilitation.

You will work alongside the multidisciplinary toprovide personalised assessment and treatment programmes for males with mental illness/ complex care needs as well as those with personality disorder. Service users may have histories of offending and/or may have failed in previous placements.
