Mentus Recruitment is proudly working with a leading healthcare provider to seek a Deputy Hospital Manager. The private hospital provides specialist eating disorder services for young people aged 13-18 years whose needs can no longer be met in the community.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Hospital Director, the Deputy Manager is an integral part of the Senior Management Team, responsible for the business, clinical, and support services aspects of the service. The post holder will ensure the highest level of patient care and, jointly with the hospital director, oversee the hospital's financial viability.

  1. Assist in managing the service to maintain safe and effective operation, reporting directly to the Clinical Director.
  2. Work within a flexible 24-hour rota system, including evenings, weekends, and occasional nights, for 40 hours per week.
  3. Manage the delivery of the business plan, ensuring effective staffing, budgeting, and resource management alongside the hospital director.
  4. Promote effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring clinical systems are used effectively and rosters are prepared at least 8 weeks in advance.
  5. Ensure compliance with CQC standards and lead incident notifications.
  6. Work with the hospital director to maintain positive relationships with commissioners, NHS clinical teams, and community services to maximize hospital occupancy.

Main Tasks: Clinical

  1. Meet the individual needs of service users daily and facilitate necessary meetings (e.g., CPA, GP, Case reviews).
  2. Receive regular handovers from the clinical team regarding clinical issues, safeguarding, and incidents.
  3. Review incidents regularly and report concerns to the Registered Manager.
  4. Keep the Registered Manager informed of all clinical issues and incidents requiring external notification.
  5. Participate in external safeguarding or incident meetings as agreed.
  6. Collaborate with professionals, purchasers, and commissioners to meet service users' needs.
  7. Participate in governance activities, including audits to monitor quality standards and implement improvements.
  8. Ensure clinical services comply with legislation, regulations, and performance indicators.
  9. Lead a culture of continuous improvement within the hospital.

Resource Management

  1. Manage daily staff operations, addressing performance concerns and referring issues per HR policies.
  2. Assist in recruiting new staff under guidance from the Registered Manager.
  3. Ensure comprehensive local induction for new staff.

Staff Training and Development

  1. Identify training needs and support staff development.
  2. Coordinate training and ensure all staff complete required programs.
  3. Provide regular supervision and conduct annual reviews with staff.
  4. Undertake direct supervision of junior staff as agreed.

Other Duties

  1. Lead inspections and contract review meetings when needed.
  2. Promote effective communication and teamwork.
  3. Lead staff and service user meetings.
  4. Maintain a safe environment, monitoring equipment and facilities.
  5. Represent the Hospital Director at meetings.
  6. Provide written reports as required.
  7. Participate in a Manager on Call rota if needed.
  8. Encourage feedback from service users and carers.
  9. Manage complaints alongside the Registered Manager, supporting service users through the process.
  10. Act on behalf of the Registered Manager in their absence.
