Job Purpose

Lead and manage colleagues and resources to ensure high standards of service within the home, exceeding regulatory standards. Support the Registered Manager in overseeing the home’s outcomes, including the welfare and safety of young people, team management, and monitoring work practices to maintain standards and viability.

Assist in managing the home’s budget to ensure financial sustainability and meet key performance indicators related to people, quality, and performance.

  • Financial management and supporting new referrals

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise the implementation of individual programmes, supporting learning, social, and independence activities.
  2. Manage the well-being and behaviour of young people, addressing issues promptly and referring significant incidents to senior staff.
  3. Support colleagues in maintaining professional relationships with students, parents, and outside agencies.
  4. Act as a positive role model, providing supervision and guidance to team members.
  5. Contribute to developing local procedures and ensure team compliance with policies and regulations.
  6. Implement proven techniques within the home.
  7. Ensure value for money for service users.

Knowledge / Education / Skills

  • Knowledge of statutory requirements related to residential care, including Children’s Homes Regulations and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People or equivalent.
  • Willingness to attain a Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People.
  • Proven management and supervisory skills in a residential setting.
  • Organisational and financial management skills.

Experience

At least 2 years’ supervisory experience in a children’s residential setting.

Responsibility

The role involves supervising colleagues during shifts, supporting education and care plans, resolving daily issues, and escalating complex matters to senior management.

Budgets & Equipment

Handle petty cash, manage allowances, administer medication according to policy, and care for equipment and consumables.

Designated Safeguarding Lead

If nominated as Safeguarding Lead, responsibilities include safeguarding duties as outlined in the attached framework.

Information

Ensure confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records and data, complying with organizational and statutory guidelines.

Communication & Interaction

Engage in judgment-based communication, sometimes involving distressing information.

Safeguarding

All colleagues must protect vulnerable individuals, be familiar with safeguarding procedures, and attend relevant training.

Working Environment

The role can be emotionally and physically demanding due to the challenges faced by children.
