Job Purpose

Lead and manage colleagues and resources to ensure high standards of service within the home, exceeding regulatory standards.

Support the Registered Manager with responsibilities including the welfare and safety of young people, team management, and monitoring work practices to maintain standards.

Assist in managing the home’s budget to ensure viability and meet key performance indicators for people, quality, and performance.

  • Supporting development and learning of colleagues
  • Ensuring financial sustainability

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise implementation of individual programmes, supporting learning, social, and independence activities.
  2. Manage well-being and behaviour of young people, handle immediate issues, and report significant occurrences.
  3. Support colleagues in maintaining professional relationships with stakeholders and refer issues appropriately.
  4. Provide supervision and guidance to team members for performance and development.
  5. Develop local procedures and ensure team compliance with policies and regulations.
  6. Implement proven techniques within the home.
  7. Ensure value for money for service users.

Knowledge / Education / Skills

  • Knowledge of statutory requirements for residential care of young people, including Children’s Homes Regulations and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People or equivalent.
  • Willingness to attain Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People.
  • Proven management and supervisory skills, including motivating and delegating.
  • Organisational and financial management skills.

Experience

At least 2 years’ supervisory experience in a children’s residential setting.

Responsibility

Leadership

Supervise colleagues, support care and education plan delivery, and contribute to the development of young people, handling issues appropriately and escalating serious matters.

Budgets & Equipment

Manage petty cash, allowances, medication administration, and equipment security.

Designated Safeguarding Lead

May be nominated as Safeguarding Lead; responsibilities include safeguarding procedures and related duties.

Information

Maintain confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records and data, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Communication & Interaction

Engage in judgment-based communication, including distressing information, requiring sensitivity.

Safeguarding

All staff must safeguard vulnerable individuals, understand local procedures, and attend relevant training.

Working Environment

The role involves managing emotional and physical challenges posed by children’s behaviours.
