Hare Street Primary School and Nursery are looking for an exceptional Deputy Headteacher to join our leadership team.

We are a local authority school working under Essex county council, and were graded as outstanding by OFSTED in March of this year (2025) for a second consecutive time with outcomes that place us in the top 1% of schools nationally.

We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious individual to develop as a senior leader and take the next step towards headship. Along with other members of the senior leadership team, the Deputy Headteacher will be centrally involved in the management of the school (specific portfolio to be built with the Headteacher upon appointment) and will be responsible for raising standards, instilling high expectations for all and helping to establish a culture that is nurturing and rigorous.

Our ideal candidate will be an outstanding teacher and a strategic leader with a resilient character and a strong personal drive that shares the vision of the Headteacher where no avenue is left unexplored in the provision of high-quality opportunities for every child. They must be a positive and solution-driven individual with a track record of strong relationships and staff development.

Essential qualities of the candidate:
  1. Have a proven experience of positively impacting on student progress, raising attainment and developing excellence.
  2. Be fully committed to Hare Street Primary School's ethos of high expectations and unmatched opportunities in the wider curriculum.
  3. Have the drive to make a real difference to the lives of pupils in Harlow.
  4. Have experience in leading on inclusion, curriculum, data and assessment.
  5. Have experience in leading staff professional development in order to improve an aspect of teaching and learning or other whole school priorities.
  6. Be currently working towards or have gained the NPQH award.
  7. Show a track record of leadership as an appointed Assistant Head.
  8. Show impact of how your leadership and pedagogy has had an impact not only at school level, but across a community.

In return, Hare Street Primary School can offer you:

  1. Well behaved children who are keen to learn and achieve their full potential.
  2. A class-based role to remain part of everyday teaching life but with extensive and protected management time to allow you to complete your tasks and innovate.
  3. Excellent professional development through our network of partners such as the Saffron teaching school hub.
  4. A hardworking team who are committed to providing outstanding education to all children, no matter what their background or needs.
  5. The opportunity to be part of the SLT, with an enthusiastic and supportive Head, for a school graded Outstanding in Spring 2025 and are now planning for an exciting future.
