Deputy Head of School
Location:Northampton

Teaching Personnel have a great opportunity to work with an Alternative Provision school based in Northampton. The school caters for Secondary students Key stage 3- Key stage 4 with SEMH.

Key Duties

  • A highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is approachable, promotes positive relationships, and fosters high expectations. Able to inspire and motivate students in a creative and adaptable way, particularly within alternative education settings.
  • Committed to a high level of pastoral care with the ability to manage student behaviour effectively and provide meaningful support to students with diverse and challenging needs.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification. Maths and English at least Level 2.
  • QTS/QTLS required. NPQSL and/or NPQH desirable. Specialist teaching qualification in a chosen subject is an advantage.
  • Proven experience teaching across the secondary age range with a successful track record as a Head of SEN or similar leadership role. Experience using virtual learning environments is desirable.
  • Proficiency in delivering a chosen subject area and supporting staff with curriculum delivery in line with school expectations.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, equality of opportunity, and inclusion—especially within schools with a high number of vulnerable children.
  • Ability to identify challenges quickly and implement appropriate, student-focused solutions that drive positive outcomes.
  • Confident in communicating clearly and persuasively—both verbally and in writing—with a wide range of stakeholders including students, parents/carers, staff, and governors.
  • Dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, safeguarding, wellbeing, and British values across the school community.
  • Effective in managing leadership responsibilities, team coordination, student outcomes, and community engagement simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience of working closely with parents, community organisations, and external stakeholders to support holistic student development and wellbeing.
