Our brand new special school for primary-aged learners (KS1, KS2 + Yr7) opened in September 2024 in the Fishponds area of Bristol, and we're recruiting for a Deputy Head responsible for SEND to join our new school & staff team from September 2025.

Elmtree Grove School is based on the successes of learner outcomes at our 6 Elmtree Learning Partnership AP sites since 2022. Initially, we will support up to 28 learners with a view to increasing capacity in the future.

All learners we support are vulnerable and have an EHCP or EHCP in progress. Creativity, perseverance, and an empathetic approach are key to engaging them in education and ensuring their progression.

We invite applicants to join our team and inspire our learners. Our learners need enhanced support to develop language & literacy skills, often requiring an empathetic, patient approach with enjoyable & accessible lessons.

This role involves:

  • Supporting the SEND teaching staff (covering PPA and ad-hoc absence)
  • Supporting the Head of Education to ensure statutory SEND requirements are upheld
  • Line managing the SENDCO
  • Supporting the Head of Education
  • Modelling an adapted primary curriculum
  • Modelling high-quality individualised learning plans & SEND practices
  • Understanding and supporting learners' challenges through teaching staff
  • Motivating & inspiring colleagues and learners
  • Providing practical resources & strategies for colleagues
  • Championing our school and our learners' work

We seek a qualified (QTS) primary teacher with excellent SEND experience, particularly with learners with SEMH & trauma who face additional barriers.

If you love working with dedicated professionals supporting young learners' development, this is the role for you.

Every Child, Every Opportunity, The Right Opportunity

We offer bespoke learning programs, integration into standard education, and social opportunities. No child should be excluded due to lack of support or access.

We value people with:

  • Relevant qualifications in supporting teaching & learning
  • Experience supporting young people in education
  • Expertise in supporting learners with SEND
  • Skills in supporting emotional wellbeing
  • Tenacity & resilience for managing behaviour
  • Ability to be a positive role model, including having fun!
  • Collaborative and proactive working practices
  • Strong sense of responsibility & work ethic

We offer additional benefits including:

  • Bright HR online HR portal & partner discounts
  • Employee Assist healthcare perks
  • Free relevant, accredited training
  • Employee Support Assistant
  • Pension scheme

Applications are encouraged from candidates meeting most criteria. We welcome those with substantial experience supporting young people with SEND or other challenges.
