A leading college in London seeks a Deputy Head of School to oversee vocational education in various subjects, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning. Carshalton College is seeking a Deputy Head of School to oversee the vocational curriculum, including Art & Design, Media, Games, Beauty, Sports, and Higher Education (HE).
The Deputy Head will combine leadership and management responsibilities within the school and contribute to the wider College operations. They will join the College Management Group (CMG) and collaborate with other managers to ensure the delivery of key priorities. The role involves assisting the Head of School in communicating policies and procedures, ensuring high-quality implementation and compliance.
A primary focus of this role is to improve learner outcomes across the School by securing high grades, enhancing teaching, learning, and assessment, and supporting the teaching team. The Deputy will also ensure students have opportunities for work experience, enrichment activities, and progression to further education or employment. The role requires proficiency in College systems and thorough knowledge of College policies.
Candidate requirements include relevant professional qualifications, experience managing staff—including handling underperformance—and a deep understanding of evidence-based teaching and assessment practices. Strong information management skills, knowledge of government policy, and awareness of economic developments are essential. The Deputy will also need skills in planning, budgeting, resourcing, and curriculum monitoring.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching skills, a track record of strong student outcomes, and experience in implementing improvements. They should have experience managing students with underachievement or high-risk behaviors, and possess leadership qualities such as confidence, accountability, compassion, strategic thinking, and deadline management.
This position is eligible for salary increases based on the annual cost of living review.
