About The Role
We are seeking a strategic and experienced
Deputy Head of Property to lead the management and maintenance of clergy housing across the business (Essex and East London). This is a pivotal role overseeing a team of Surveyors, Project Managers, and support staff, ensuring the effective delivery of property services, compliance, and strategic planning.
You will support the Head of Property in shaping and delivering the diocesan property strategy, manage a portfolio of approximately 375 residential properties, and ensure high standards in maintenance, procurement, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the estates team, ensuring effective supervision and performance.
- Develop and deliver the estate plan for MRICS, MCIOB, RIBA etc
- clergy housing, using data-driven insights.
- Oversee property budgets, forecasting, and financial risk management.
- Ensure compliance with property regulations and safety standards.
- Manage procurement and delivery of building services and term contracts.
- Oversee vacant property processes, lettings, and contractor performance.
- Support strategic asset management, acquisitions, and disposals.
- Produce reports and papers for committees and governance meetings.
- Deputise for the Head of Property as required.
- About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Professional qualification (
- RIBA or equivalent).
- Significant experience in property asset management, ideally in housing or charitable sectors.
- Proven ability to manage large property portfolios and budgets.
- Strong knowledge of building regulations, planning, and compliance (e.g. CDM, gas/electrical safety).
- Experience in procurement, contract management, and project delivery.
- Skilled in team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning.
- Driving licence and own car for work purposes
Desirable
- Experience with heritage buildings and church property.
- Familiarity with charity governance and ecclesiastical structures.
