The National Fire Chiefs Council Limited. seeks a Deputy Head of Fleet and Engineering to assist in management activities and provide leadership for a motivated team. The role involves overseeing vehicle procurement, ensuring compliance, and managing staff performance in North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
This key role will assist the Head of Fleet & Engineering in a wide range of Fleet & Engineering management activities, policy development, and deputise where appropriate. We are looking for a committed, passionate individual to create and develop an engaged and highly motivated team by providing positive, inspirational, and highly visible leadership.
You will oversee the management of light vehicle and Flexi Duty System vehicle procurement, support the Head of Department in future budget setting, plan within current budget parameters, evaluate vehicles, identify vehicle types for consideration, and liaise with vehicle builders regarding the fitment of safety and enhanced vehicle systems such as CCTV and interior equipment.
Supporting the Head of Fleet & Engineering in supervisory responsibilities for the Fleet & Engineering Technical Supervisors, ensuring compliance with supervisory procedures. This includes managing absences, identifying staff training needs, promoting in-house training and knowledge sharing, and liaising with the Head of Fleet & Engineering to meet these needs.
The postholder will be responsible for the Fleet Department's productivity levels, including downtime, risk assessments, and performance indicators, and will implement improvements as needed. Ensure staff conduct and performance meet the standards required by the Service and the Head of Fleet & Engineering, managing any issues through liaison with the Technical Supervisors.
The ideal candidate will be a good communicator with previous experience managing staff. You should have at least 2 years of supervisory experience in a workshop environment/management and experience in budget control.
