At Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, we are currently looking for an inspiring leader and excellent practitioner who shares our belief that education is the key to opportunity. As Deputy Head of Faculty – English, you will support the Head of Faculty in leading and developing a high-performing English department. This is a key leadership role, designed to improve outcomes and raise aspirations through excellent teaching, curriculum design, quality assurance, and the mentoring of staff.

You Will
  • Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of an engaging and ambitious English curriculum from KS3 to KS4
  • Contribute to the leadership of the faculty's teaching, learning, and assessment strategies
  • Embed quality assurance processes, including lesson observations, work scrutiny, and data analysis
  • Drive staff development and contribute to performance management and coaching, including for ECTs
  • Lead initiatives that promote high standards of literacy, student progress, and behaviour
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement strategies, including pupil voice, stakeholder engagement, and inclusive learning

We are a popular and oversubscribed 11–16 mainstream school with additional expertise and facilities, including two focused SEND provisions for young people on the autistic spectrum and for those who are deaf and hearing impaired (ARC and Deaf Academy). Our small and bespoke sixth form (WOA6) caters for students in Years 12 and 13 who have EHCPs. Rooted in our vision — Believe, Achieve, Succeed — we are committed to high expectations, inclusive education, and transforming life chances for young people in Sandwell.

Why work for Ormiston?

Our vision is to create a school system where every child thrives, regardless of background. Our people are at the heart of our approach – they are our greatest asset.

We exist to provide the best learning opportunities every day, in every school for every child. It is the people and teams in our Trust who make this a reality and ensure we have the greatest impact. If you join us at Ormiston, whatever your role, your work will have purpose and meaning.

Benefits of working at Ormiston
  • The opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before – being part of one of the longest-standing Trusts, created to enable children and young people to thrive
  • Working for a Trust recognized for its impact on disadvantaged children – a rewarding, stimulating career where staff are challenged to be the best they can be
  • Being part of a community where you belong – working within a well-resourced and ambitious network of professionals
  • A supportive environment for career growth – extensive professional development, flexible working, and benefits
