Position

Deputy Head of Construction & Heritage — Permanent, £41,207 – £43,652 per annum (negotiable for the right candidate). Location: Northamptonshire.

About the Role

Think FE Ltd. is proud to be working on behalf of a well-regarded, Ofsted-rated college in Northamptonshire to recruit a Deputy Head of Construction & Heritage. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced teaching professional with leadership experience and practical expertise in the built environment trades. You will play a key role in shaping the curriculum and teaching standards while still staying hands-on with up to 7.5 hours of weekly teaching. The role also includes responsibility for student progress, employer engagement, and staff development.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Leading curriculum planning and innovation in heritage and construction disciplines.
  • Ensuring high teaching standards through lesson observations and staff coaching.
  • Delivering up to 7.5 hours of engaging, high-quality teaching each week in areas such as brickwork, carpentry, stonemasonry, or furniture making.
  • Overseeing learner progress and implementing timely interventions for those at risk.
  • Providing pastoral and tutorial support to ensure all students feel supported and motivated.
  • Building strong external links with employers and professional bodies to enhance curriculum relevance and employability.
  • Collaborating internally to embed digital skills and vocational excellence across programmes.
About You

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • A teaching qualification, ideally at Level 5 or above (PGCE, DET, DTLLS, PGDE etc.).
  • Proven industry experience in multiple areas within construction and heritage crafts.
  • Experience delivering teaching in an FE setting.
  • Strong leadership capabilities you might already be a course manager or similar.
  • A track record of improving outcomes for learners.
  • The ability to inspire staff, connect with students, and build relationships across the sector.
