Job description

NWAS is seeking a dynamic, creative and strategic leader to join us as Deputy Head of Facilities Management.

This role will oversee the delivery of FM scope ensuring high-quality, equitable and sustainable facilities within the Trust's extensive estate across the North West. The successful applicant will lead the evolving changes to how space is managed supporting innovative solutions and enabling operational excellence, ensuring all stations and premises support frontline services and thus patient care, while embodying the Trust's values.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Head of Facilities Management occupies a pivotal leadership role within the NWAS, charged with advancing the strategic and operational domains of the facilities management function. The role prioritises the delivery of facilities services that are high-quality, cost-efficient, compliant with regulatory frameworks and aligned with the Trust's overarching goals.

About us

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Job responsibilities

Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:00 37.5 hours per week

Base: either Bolton, Liverpool or Preston

Travel: Must have ability to travel independently by car, around the Trust

  • Evidence of continuing professional development in facilities management.
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance requirements, including health and safety, DSE regulations, and space management.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and their integration into facilities management
  • Thorough understanding of NHS People Plan objectives and their application in operational strategies
  • Significant experience in managing facilities management operations across multiple sites.
  • Demonstrable experience in space planning, policy development, and small works project management.
  • Proven track record in managing budgets, contracts, and achieving value-for-money outcomes.
  • Experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary teams
  • Evidence of driving innovation and integrating technology into operational practices.
  • Successful stakeholder engagement, including with senior leaders and external service providers
  • Participation in governance processes and ensuring regulatory compliance.
