Deputy Head of Department - Progression, Projects and Partnerships (Adult, Community and ESOL)

Leeds City College is seeking a Deputy Head for Progression, Projects and Partnershipswithin the Adult, Community and ESOL department. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Adult, Community & ESOL (ACE) department, who were graded Outstanding by Ofsted in February 2025. In 2024/5 there were over 5000 students with a team of 200+, bringing education and life-changing experiences to our learners. We have been validated internally as Grade 1 for six years in a row.

Our Adult AEB budget is over ten million pounds per year. You will support the Head and Deputy Director to efficiently run and deliver its financial targets and lead on Vocational Adult curriculum quality. You will also lead on external partnership and engagements (e.g. Leeds City Council, local schools and employers) to support the whole ACE department.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team who are at the cutting edge of AI curriculum innovation, but maintains a friendly and community identity.

The team is based predominantly at the Enfield Centre and Deacon House, but includes smaller provision at Eastgate and some outreach centres.

What You Will Do

Lead on vocational adult provision, located across a variety of centres.

Lead on external partnership and engagements (e.g. Leeds City Council, local schools and employers) to support the whole ACE department.

Support the Head of Department in all aspects of the Departments leadership and management, particularly around quality, teaching, learning and assessment and securing outstanding outcomes for students

Be a role model across the Department for outstanding teaching and learning

Performance manage lecturers and other staff within the Department and ensure that they develop their professional practice

Ensure the Department is efficiently run and delivers its financial contribution targets, including managing income streams for adult funding and Leeds City Council contracts.

Ensure that all courses within the Department are run effectively and meet awarding body, funding and quality agency requirements.

Lead on all aspects for a defined section of provision within the Department, including:

Ensuring its curriculum is responsive to national and local priorities and

Adapting and developing provision to meet local demands

Responding to funding changes and develop provision in growth areas

Securing outstanding outcomes for students and employers

About You
  • Level 5 teaching qualification.
  • Knowledge of Government policy in relation to education and training, including its funding and curriculum/qualification reform.
  • Proven experience managing curriculum, including planning, monitoring and reviewing.
  • Experience of working positively with adults.
  • Takes effective action to affect the behaviour and decisions of other people.
  • Experience of successful administration and management of financial budgets.
