Job description

Deputy Head of Department for English and Maths

Location: Rotherham

Salary: £41,992 per annum

The Role

This is an exciting development opportunity to shape the provision of English and Maths at Rotherham College, including external partners and stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

1. Operationally lead the delivery of Maths & English at RC & Offsite locations and premises. Delivery oversight will include those teaching on Adults, Apprenticeships, WBL, Adults/Flex, High Needs, and with partners, including some SEMH provision. Delivery may be face-to-face or online.
2. Be responsible for the delivery for the subsidiaries and partners (including Rotherham United Football Club), High Needs, and learners with SEMH.
3. This role will complement the Deputy for Study Programme learners.
4. Ensure the Maths & English curriculum is well planned, sequenced, inclusive, and delivers high-quality teaching and learning to support all learners in achieving their qualifications and making outstanding progress.

As Deputy Head of Department, you will support the work of the Head of Department for English and Maths. You will build relationships with internal and external partners to ensure the outstanding delivery of GCSE, Functional Skills, some non-accredited provisions, and their new 'Stepping Stone' qualifications.

Skills and Qualifications

• You will be a strong curriculum leader and a specialist in English and Maths.
• You will have experience managing/leading Maths and English teams, inspiring high performance within these subjects.
• You will have excellent knowledge of recent curriculum development initiatives and be able to lead innovation and inclusivity, ensuring all learners have an equitable and excellent student experience, whether online or face-to-face.
• You will be able to lead internal quality assurance processes, including standardisation and moderation activities across teams and campuses, and work with external bodies to assure processes for English & Maths.

You must hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths (or higher), a degree or relevant qualification, and a recognised Level 5 or higher teaching qualification, along with evidence of recent CPD.

As a leader, you should possess strong interpersonal skills (verbal and written), be able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and influence a diverse range of people.

Department Info

You will be line managed by the Head of Department - Maths and English. Collaboration with cross-college and external partners is essential. As Deputy Head of Department, you will attend necessary meetings, both on and offsite, to ensure progress and positive learner outcomes.
