Job description

Derby County Football Club is seeking a Deputy Head of Communications to join the Communications department. The successful candidate will assist the Head of Communications in providing an efficient and comprehensive information service to internal and external stakeholders.

The role involves creating and managing engaging content for social media, the club website, and RamsTV, ensuring consistent tone and brand identity. The candidate will also contribute to strategies that grow the club’s digital presence, assist with organising press conferences, and produce internal and external communications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a first point of contact for media enquiries and manage first-team player media activity.
  • Create and manage engaging content for social media, the club website, and RamsTV.
  • Contribute to strategies that grow the club’s digital presence and monitor emerging platforms.
  • Assist with organising press conferences and producing internal and external communications.
  • Develop and manage monthly editorial calendars in collaboration with departments across the club.
  • Support delivery of the Fan Engagement Strategy alongside Marketing.
  • Produce content for the Women’s team, Academy, and community initiatives.
  • Deputise for the Head of Communications when required.
Essential Personal Characteristics and Experience:
  • Football-related content production experience and knowledge.
  • Experience of analysing, interpreting and presenting data to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
  • Previous experience in a written communication/journalistic role.
  • Previous experience in producing social media content, including video.
  • Previous experience in using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Used to working in a fast-paced environment providing accurate and timely information to a high standard.
  • Previous experience of working in a similar role within a football club setting.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of requirement for confidentiality.
  • Significant problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, competing priorities and project conflict.
  • Excellent IT skills.
Qualifications:
  • 5 GSCE’s or ‘O’ Levels (grades A – C).
  • BA Degree or equivalent in Sports Journalism or similar is desirable.
  • Full UK Driving License and access to a vehicle.
