Core Purpose of the Role

The Deputy Headteacher will provide outstanding operationalleadership, working in close partnership with the Headteacher to secure thecontinuous improvement of the school. By managing day-to-day school systems,policies, and momentum, the Deputy Headteacher will enable the Headteacher tofocus effectively on long-term strategic direction. The successful candidatewill balance senior leadership with a two-day weekly teaching commitment, modellingclassroom excellence and driving a shared, child-centred vision across theschool.

Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership, Partnership & Strategic Alignment
  • Co-pilotlong-term strategy alongside the Headteacher to shape the futuredirection of the school.
  • Translateoverarching vision into measurable, actionable targets within theSchool Improvement Plan.
  • Presentstrategic plans jointly to the Governing Body for approval,constructive scrutiny, and review.
  • Actas a visible, collaborative leader who unifies staff behind theschool's core mission and values.
  • Energeticand enthusiastic leader possessing the strength of character tomaintain a rigorous focus on school improvement.
  • ImproveParental Engagement. Work with numerousoutside agencies to benefit our families.
  • Driveand champion the school’s broader community presence by leadinghigh-profile events (e.g. May Fayre, concerts) and fostering strategicpartnerships with LA Hub and cluster schools.
  • LeadProfessional for Educational Support Assessments.
2. Operational Management & Policy Control
  • Leaddaily school operations, ensuring efficient, calm, and safe day-to-dayrunning of the school site.
  • Create,review, and implement robust, child-centred whole-school policies thatmeet statutory requirements.
  • Absorboperational pressures proactively, giving the Headteacher thenecessary space for strategic oversight.
  • Maintainhigh standards of pupil behaviour and well-being through consistentoperational leadership.
  • Effectivelydealing with difficult conversations, when necessary, with allstakeholders.
3. Curriculum, Performance & Student Outcomes
  • Analyseprimary performance metrics and pupil data to pivot teachingstrategies and elevate outcomes.
  • OverseeEarly Years and primary curriculum policies, ensuring they align withand support the broader school vision.
  • Evaluatethe quality of teaching and learning across the school, providingfeedback and mentoring to staff.
  • Workon developing best practice pedagogy across the school, from Nurseryto Year 6.
4. Teaching Commitment & Modelling Excellence
  • Fulfila two-day weekly teaching commitment, maintaining an outstandingstandard of primary practice.
  • Modelexemplary classroom teaching, formative assessment, and behaviourmanagement for colleagues.
  • Staydeeply connected to pupil progress and classroom realities throughdirect teaching experience.
  • Activelycontribute to the wider life of the school through events, concerts,and collaborative initiatives with our LA Hub and cluster schools.
