Applications are invited for the Deputy Freedom to Speak Up Guardian (FTSUG) to work across Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) alongside the Lead FTSUG. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders to support staff to speak up, and to help contribute to the culture of the organisation.
We are looking for a compassionate and empathetic individual with exemplary communication skills who can work independently and with impartiality, maintain the confidence of those speaking up and establish excellent working relationships with staff at all levels of the organisation.
Main duties of the job
With support from the (lead) FTSUG, the postholder will help ensure:
- Staff are appropriately supported to speak up, whether they are speaking up themselves or in support of others
- Managers have the knowledge to support those who are speaking up
- A culture of speaking up is instilled throughout the organisation
- Speaking up processes are effective and continuously evaluated
- The organisation learns from speaking up

Person Specification
- Education to Masters level degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Coaching or mentoring qualification or equivalent experience
Experience/Knowledge
- Experience of managing, negotiating and resolving complex issues in a management, clinical or professional role
- Experience of providing effective support to staff in difficult work related situations, including advice and signposting
- Demonstrable track record of facilitating change in a working environment
- In depth knowledge of the Speaking up agenda including relevant national developments and understanding of the FTSUG role
- A strong understanding of the barriers to speaking up and how the FTSUG can support groups of workers who may face challenges in speaking up
- Understanding of issues relating to cultural change, organisational development and staff engagement
- Experienced at delivering training to a wide range of audiences
- Commitment to developing and maintaining an open, transparent and learning culture across the Trust
Skills/Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Motivating, influencing and negotiating skills with proven success at leading change at a senior level of the organisation
- Ability to receive and present highly complex and sensitive information, and be able to challenge senior leadership in relation to this
- Ability to analyse complex information, identifying emerging themes and learning; and to present this clearly (orally and written) to a wide range of audiences
- Ability to work independently, and autonomously, managing own caseload, work to tight deadlines and manage conflicting priorities in line with the GOSH FTSU policy and NGO guidelines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to find solutions
- Excellent IT skills and ability to create reports, securely manage data and case records
- Ability to work flexibly
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with sensitive and emotive situations
