About the Role

As a Deputy Editor, you'll assist the Editor-in-Chief with journal organization and preparation. Your responsibilities include overseeing submissions and peer reviews, ensuring high-quality publications, training new Editors, and collaborating with other Lancet journal teams. You will also build international relationships to share impactful research findings.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Editor-in-Chief in selecting submissions for publication.
  • Develop editorial strategy, including special projects such as Series and Commissions.
  • Ensure the timely production of 12 journal issues annually.
  • Train and mentor new Editors on manuscript evaluation, peer-review processes, editorial writing, and commissioning.
  • Write editorials, organize peer reviews, and conduct webinars and podcasts with authors and opinion leaders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with medical research communities, especially for clinical trials.
  • Represent the journal at conferences and events, identify topics and authors, and stay updated on medical research developments.
Requirements
  • A medical degree or PhD in relevant disciplines such as biomedical science, public health, or global health.
  • Senior editorial experience with a solid understanding of journal processes and production.
  • Thorough knowledge of clinical and global public health, especially related to the WHO Europe region.
  • Ability to engage with external stakeholders and build relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in English and engaging writing skills.
  • Competence with IT systems, including MS Office.
  • Commitment to health equity and a positive, proactive attitude.
