At Immediate, we’re home to some of the biggest and most loved consumer brands in the UK, including Radio Times, Good Food and Gardeners World. Our trusted, quality content reaches millions of people a month across digital, print, video, podcasts, apps and live events.

We’re the destination for people looking to get more from the things they love. We help inspire them; deepening their knowledge, skills and fuelling their passions, to enjoy more of what life has to offer.

Whether it’s the big things, or the little things; from reaching fitness goals to savouring good food, cultivating outdoor, or indoor, spaces, or enjoying the latest TV sensation with loved ones – we help bring our audiences joy!

About the role

As Deputy Editor you'll organise and make decisions on the direction of content, working across our ever-changing portfolio of magazines (and potential digital content). You’ll primarily be working on the official Pokémon magazine and MEGA, while keeping an eye on Minecraft and some LEGO titles.

You’ll be making editorial decisions alongside the editor and autonomously in the editor’s absence. Helping to implement the editorial focus, content and material of the magazines while managing staff and liaising with other departments internally and externally. You will help promote the development and profitability of the magazines within the marketplace. Along with the editor, you will be responsible for ensuring that the editorial vision of the magazines and covermounts are maintained. Deputy Editor experience is an advantage, but this position is a great opportunity for someone freshly stepping up to this level.

As a Deputy Editor you will;
  • Stay on top of Pokémon brand and general gaming developments
  • Work closely with senior members of the editorial team including the editor, art and production to help meet all deadlines
  • Where/when relevant, help manage members of staff and freelancers - ensuring that writers are able to produce exciting, creative content for readers within a busy, deadline-focused environment
  • Take responsibility for originating and generating new ideas for each magazine/brand. Ensure they have a current, relevant feel and you always deliver high quality editorial while staying true to the brand where appropriate
  • Make sure that all content is on-brand, to deadline and complies with the brand’s guidelines
  • Keep on top of trends and what’s popular with 7-11 year-olds
  • Flatplan issues in conjunction with the editor
  • Manage and motivate staff alongside the editor
  • Keep abreast of market developments and digital opportunities, coming up with new ideas to keep ahead of competitors
  • Maintain specialist knowledge, potentially keeping in regular contact with rights owners
  • Manage enquiries and complaints
  • Attend internal and external meetings, promotions and exhibitions, which may on occasions fall outside of normal working hours
  • Become familiar with the production process from start to finish
  • An in-depth knowledge of the Pokémon brand and gaming
  • Evidence of first-class writing skills, for both print and digital content. Clear and accurate communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organisation and time-management skills. Ability to prioritise work according to tight deadlines
  • Experience on a children’s magazine/brand is preferrable
  • Ability to foster a positive working environment, taking all stakeholders into account, and create new contacts and find relevant sources to help with features/projects
  • A willingness/flexibility to learn new skills, often utilising AI, to move with the times and create content for whichever platform that our audience would like
  • Knowledge of the children’s media market in all its forms: film, TV, gaming, apps
  • Knowledge of media law is preferable. Understanding of picture copyright issues would be an advantage
  • A relaxed working environment with regular socials including a summer festival
  • Supportive well-being initiatives and benefits, talks & workshops, and Mental Health First aiders & Champions
  • 25 days holiday plus a day for your birthday. Our offices will be closed between Christmas and New Year’s which are in addition to your annual entitlement
  • Tailored training and development through both our inhouse learning platform and LinkedIn Learning
  • A progressive and transparent culture focused on your development
  • Flexible / hybrid working plus early finish Fridays
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Enhanced Family Policies including paternity, adoption and surrogacy leave. We also provide a pregnancy loss, fertility, and carers policy
  • Competitive pension plans and Life Assurance
  • A newly renovated modern office with lots of collaborative spaces
