Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Haringey to assist with the appointment of a Deputy Chief Accountant, on a 2.5-month contract, likely to be extended at client's discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £649.00- £892.30 per day

Summary:

The Deputy Chief Accountant will act as the lead coordinator for the production of the Council's Statement of Accounts, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with all financial regulations. The role involves managing day-to-day operations within the Chief Accountant's team, providing strategic financial guidance, maintaining robust financial systems, and ensuring compliance with CIPFA codes, statutory requirements, and council policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Housing Revenue Account (HRA) financial statements and consolidation into group accounts.
  • Provide VAT advice across council services, mitigating HMRC penalties.
  • Ensure compliance with CIPFA Codes of Practice and Council's Financial Regulations.
  • Oversee cash flow management, including quarterly statements.
  • Represent Financial Management in internal and external forums, ensuring financial sustainability and value for money.

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification
  • Membership of a recognised professional body

Essentials:

  • Experience managing large finance teams.
  • Proficiency with financial systems (e.g., SAP) and awareness of system integrations.
