Deputy Care Manager

Reports to: Registered Manager

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience £35- £40,000, flexible/negotiable for the right person.

Hours of work: Full-time, with the flexibility required to meet the needs of the children and the home

Location: Tendring district

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as Deputy Care Manager in our therapeutic children's home. As a registered establishment with OFSTED, our home provides crucial residential care and support to children and young people with complex needs, including those who have experienced trauma, neglect, or abuse.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Regulatory Framework and Compliance: Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining necessary documentation and records in accordance with OFSTED requirements.

  2. Leadership and Management: Providing effective leadership to the staff team, fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

  3. Staff Management and Development: Recruiting, training, and supervising staff members to ensure they have the necessary skills and competencies to support the children effectively.

  4. Financial Management and Resource Allocation: Assisting in managing the home's budget, monitoring expenditures, and allocating resources effectively while ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

  5. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement: Implementing quality assurance mechanisms to monitor and improve the effectiveness of services provided.

  6. Professional Development and Training: Facilitating professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in children's residential care and therapeutic approaches.

  7. Therapeutic Approaches and Interventions: Assisting in implementing therapeutic interventions and monitoring their effectiveness in meeting the children's needs.

  8. Partnership Working and Stakeholder Engagement: Developing and maintaining effective partnerships with external agencies, professionals, and stakeholders to meet the needs of the children.

  9. Safeguarding and Child Protection: Ensuring robust safeguarding policies, procedures, and practices are in place to protect children from harm and abuse.

  10. Record Keeping and Documentation: Ensuring all records, documentation, and reports are complete, up-to-date, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

  11. Communication and Collaboration: Maintaining open and transparent communication channels with staff, children, families, and external stakeholders.

Professional Development:

Qualifications: Hold a relevant qualification in social work, childcare, management, or a related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  1. Comprehensive understanding of OFSTED regulations and standards for children's residential care.

  2. Experience in a managerial role within a children's residential setting, preferably in a therapeutic environment.

  3. Experience in children's social care and understanding effective practices for meeting the needs of looked-after children.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  2. Excellent organisational and time management abilities.

  3. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and resolve conflicts effectively.

Special Conditions:

  1. Willingness to undergo background checks and obtain necessary clearances for working with children.

  3. No history of financial or other misconduct while in the role, and free from criminal convictions that may pose a risk to vulnerable adults or children.
