Dumfries and Galloway Council seeks a Deputy Nursery Manager/Nursery Nurse for Wallace Hall Primary School to ensure high-quality early learning and childcare. Deputy Nursery Manager/Nursery Nurse (Fixed Term)

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Deputy Nursery Manager/Nursery Nurse. You will support the Nursery Manager in leading and managing the day-to-day operation of the nursery, ensuring all children receive high-quality early learning and childcare. The successful applicant will work 12.5 hours as Deputy Nursery Manager and 23.5 hours as Nursery Nurse, over 39 weeks per year. This post may be suitable for secondment, subject to line manager approval.
Candidates should have a passion for early years education, with experience, knowledge, and understanding of learning through play. Familiarity with current documentation such as Realising the Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence – Early Level, My World Outdoors, Funding Follows the Child, and the National Standard for Early Learning and Childcare providers would be advantageous. You will be supported to inspire children’s learning in our setting.
Applicants must hold a qualification in Social Services, Children & Young People at SCQF Level 7, or an HNC in Childhood Practice at Level 7 (or equivalent). Preferred candidates must commit to gaining a BA in Childhood Practice or equivalent within their first registration period with SSSC as Manager/Lead.
As a Nursery Nurse, you should be energetic, innovative, and capable of developing excellent relationships with adults and children. A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to enhance children’s educational experiences is essential. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Note: Dumfries and Galloway Council’s nursery settings may operate between 8.00 am – 6.00 pm, and working patterns will be aligned to service needs.
This position is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo an update check before employment is confirmed.
Applicants previously resident outside the UK within the last 5 years must provide a police record check from the relevant authorities in their country of residence, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check.
