Troqueer Primary School, located in South West Dumfries, has a current mainstream school roll of over 260 pupils and a Nursery with capacity for 53 children. We are an inclusive school committed to providing the best quality education for life, with pupils at the heart of everything we do. We seek an enthusiastic and dynamic Depute Headteacher who demonstrates a passion for learning on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will have experience leading and managing aspects of school improvement, with demonstrable knowledge of teaching skills and practices across all stages. As part of the school management team, they will help steer strategic direction and lead curricular development.


The ideal candidate will be committed to working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the wider community to provide quality learning experiences. They will help equip pupils with the skills to become successful, confident, and responsible contributors to society.


This role offers an excellent opportunity to innovate in leading and developing high-quality learning and teaching, sustaining improvement, and raising achievement and attainment to achieve the best outcomes for our pupils.

A significant relocation package of up to £5000 may be available to the successful candidate (Permanent positions only). Please see attached guidance for further information.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT, in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have resided outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, will need to provide a police record check from the relevant authority in their country of residence, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check.
