Job description

Job Description

Depute Head Teacher
The Royal High School

Salary: £77,358
Hours: 35 per week

We are seeking an inspirational and passionate Depute Head to join the Senior Leadership Team at The Royal High School.

The Royal High School, one of Scotland's oldest schools, combines a rich history with a commitment to innovation. It is a non-denominational, 6-year comprehensive school serving students from four catchment primary schools: Blackhall, Clermiston, Cramond, and Davidson's Mains.

The school was inspected by HMIE in December 2022.

The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) includes the Headteacher, four Depute Headteachers, and the Business Manager. The current teaching staff comprises 100 FTE teachers, supported by 21 FTE non-teaching staff, including Pupil Support Assistants, who aid in student integration. The school has an integrated Additional Support for Learning Team, combining Guidance and Support for Learning, as well as Enhanced Support and Wellbeing Bases.

Refurbished in 2004, the school boasts high-standard facilities, though social areas are limited and teaching spaces are tightly scheduled. The facilities are extensively used outside school hours by the community. The school is a designated Community Sports Hub, with PE facilities refurbished in 2015. An excellent extracurricular program is offered, with partner clubs and staff-led activities. Due to increasing student numbers, six huts are in use, and a new extension is opening in Easter 2024.

The school maintains positive relationships with parents, local businesses, and the community. The Parent Council and Fundraising Group are actively involved, and the school is supported by an active Former Pupils' Club.
