A local educational authority is seeking a deputy headteacher to manage school operations, ensure student welfare, and assist in policy implementation. Applicants must be fully registered with the General Teaching Council of Scotland and demonstrate ongoing professional development. This is a permanent position based in Castle Douglas, offering a competitive salary and engaging work environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The deputy headteacher's role is, within available resources, to manage the affairs of the school for the benefit of pupils and the community, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by the council under the overall direction of the Director of Education and Lifelong Learning.
2. The deputy headteacher shall be accountable to the council for the following duties, and other duties reasonably attached to the post:
(a) responsibility for the leadership, management, and strategic direction of the school.
(b) responsibility for school policy regarding behaviour management of pupils.
(c) management of all staff, providing professional advice and guidance.
(d) management and development of the school curriculum.
(e) act as adviser to the Parent Council and participate in staff recruitment.
(f) promote professional development of staff and ensure annual reviews of their development needs.
(g) work in partnership with parents, professionals, agencies, and other schools.
(h) manage health and safety within school premises.
3. If a teaching component is included in the deputy headteacher role, its extent will be determined based on the management content of the post. This profile indicates the responsibilities associated with the post and may be adjusted as needed by the Service Director, Children and Young People.
