Job description

Depot Manager

Based in the Sheffield / Peak District Area
Hope Valley, Tunstead and Dow Low

Forming part of the Engineering Management Team, the successful candidate will be a key part of the team that is responsible for the delivery of safe, reliable and cost-effective maintenance of locomotives and wagons to meet and exceed customer requirements assisting the delivery of the Heavy Haul Wagon and Locomotive fleet and ensuring that all maintenance activities comply with the Company Engineering standards and procedures.

You should be able to immediately demonstrate the following:

  5. Confident manager, capable of making sound engineering decisions
  6. Skilled communicator

Core Responsibilities:
  1. Lead by example, deliver high levels of H&S through positive engagement and continuous improvement
  2. Work with the audit teams, management of daily standards to ensure workmanship, equipment, and safety / environmental procedures meet both company and legislation requirements.
  3. Enable production - overcome obstacles to ensure safe, quality and reliable production. Adopt lean practises and a cycle of continuous improvement throughout the facility.
  4. Direct and control the management of the inspection, maintenance and repair activity of the business and its' client to ensure that the business requirements of the engineering department are delivered.
  5. Lead in driving service reliance delivery and improve productivity in asset and equipment utilisation.
  6. Develop a robust training and competency plan in line with company standards to ensure smooth delivery of production.
  7. Identify and action employee development needs making use of the apprenticeship levy, internal and external training courses and assessments.
  8. Depot P&L - implement financial controls over maintenance and facility expenditure. Monitor performance of the rolling stock maintenance function. Provide explanation of expenditure variances. Management of site CAPEX plan.
  9. Communicate effectively and efficiency - ensure the VMF team are kept up to date with all communications and relevant information using toolbox talks, team briefs, safety and engineering bulletins.
  10. Direct responsibility for 12 staff over 3 sites
  11. Depot related on call duties as required.
  12. Depot Facilities are newly installed
  13. Main place of work to be decided by the successful applicant
