Job description

As a Depot IT Infrastructure Specialist, you will be responsible for the hands‑on delivery, maintenance, and improvement of IT infrastructure across our depot network, supporting both day‑to‑day operations and key business projects. This is a technical, delivery‑focused role that requires the direct execution of infrastructure tasks rather than coordination alone. You will play a critical role in ensuring depot IT systems are reliable, compliant, scalable, and fit for future business needs. This role is ideally suited to someone who has built their experience working on large, complex operational sites and thrives in environments where no two days are the same. You'll be comfortable travelling between our sites, adapting to changing priorities, and solving problems hands‑on. For the right person, the mix of scale, autonomy, and real‑world impact makes this a highly rewarding opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure safe working practices during cabling, hardware installation, and maintenance
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards at all sites
  • Own and maintain local Ethernet cabling infrastructure (fibre and copper), ensuring performance, resilience, and compliance
  • Carry out inspections, testing, fault‑finding, and repairs to prevent connectivity issues
  • Plan and execute infrastructure refresh projects, including switches, access points, UPS systems, network cards, servers, and printers
  • Actively manage hardware lifecycles to maintain vendor support and operational reliability
  • Scope and deliver data cabling and IT infrastructure solutions for new depot locations and large‑scale changes
  • Define power and data requirements aligned to evolving operational and automation needs
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, compatible, and cost‑effective
  • Support project managers by defining technical requirements, resource needs, and implementation approaches
  • Scope and assess supplier quotes for infrastructure projects (including CCTV, PA systems, and briefing screens)
  • Challenge vendor proposals to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and value for money
  • Coordinate suppliers to deliver work safely, on time, and to agreed standards
  • Take ownership of depot infrastructure compliance from an IT perspective
  • Define and support best‑practice operating standards for hardware and networks
  • Provide hands‑on troubleshooting to minimise downtime and operational impact
  • Maintain an annual schedule of infrastructure activity in collaboration with the Technical Services Manager
Travel Requirements
  • Regular travel across depot sites within the network
  • Up to 50% of working time is spent travelling
  • Overnight stays may be required
  • Flexibility is essential to meet operational and project demands
Qualifications
  • Strong hands‑on knowledge of IT infrastructure, including Ethernet cabling (OM3/OM4 fibre, CAT5E/CAT6/CAT6A)
  • Background working in large buildings or complex operational environments (logistics or warehousing experience is a strong advantage)
  • Experience with networking hardware such as Cisco switches, Extreme access points, and APC UPS systems
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues on site
  • Experience delivering infrastructure projects (hardware refreshes, new site deployments, printer roll‑outs)
  • Confidence working with suppliers and holding them to technical and quality standards
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
  • A pragmatic, solutions‑focused mindset with strong ownership and accountability
