Key Responsibilities
- Manage the overall design delivery of the Calvert Infrastructure Maintenance Depot, from Scheme Design through Detailed Design, fabrication/manufacturing designs, construction, and As-built stage.
- Coordinate and lead the design for the Calvert IMD (Buildings, railway elements, and other facilities), supervising Designers and specialist subcontractors/suppliers during design, construction, and handover. Ensure integration of PW and TW design stages, design assurance, and management of digital deliverables, aligned with the project programme, cost, and client requirements.
- Secure design deliverables for Permanent Works approvals, coordinating with Temporary Works designs, and support obtaining such approvals through stakeholder engagement.
- Attend weekly meetings with the construction team, design team, and client in Birmingham, Calvert, and London. Chair meetings for Calvert IMD design issues and manage mitigation strategies.
- Support and coordinate with the Calvert construction team on design issues, engaging subcontractors, designers, and suppliers regarding fabrication designs.
- Assist the client in identifying changes, risks, and opportunities, striving for efficiencies and cost savings. Lead the assessment of optimizations and liaise with commercial, planning, and design delivery teams.
- Provide technical input and support for commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc.).
- Coordinate closely with the Engineering Director, Track design lead, and delivery directors to ensure timely, optimized design delivery aligned with client requirements.
- Manage all interfaces (internal and external) to ensure an integrated, constructible design, documenting interface management.
- Review and report on design delivery performance, including cost, programme, scope, progress, change, compliance, and governance, with support from project controls and commercial teams.
- Oversee the delivery of technical assurance during design, construction, and handover, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations.
Key Skills and Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or Architecture.
- Knowledge of building codes, standards, zoning regulations, building systems, and site requirements.
- Experience managing railway depot designs and large railway station or complex building projects.
- Strong understanding of disciplines: architectural design, MEP, and railway engineering.
- Experience managing designers, liaising with third parties, stakeholders, and contractors.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
